Tweet of the year

And that's putting it mildly. It really is an extraordinary statement, when you think about it.


  1. Amazing indeed. I'm starting to like this guy. He also seems to be initiating a major effort to engage the laity - you know, Catholics who aren't priests or anything - on their needs and opinions. I don't think any Pope has done that in my lifetime.

  2. He's my favorite pope in my lifetime, by far. Among other things, he seems to have a genuine humility and lack of materialism that's shocking in someone with that degree of worldly power. It's also a continuing source of amusement to see right-wing Catholics like Ross Douthat attempt to grapple with statements like this one.
